Side Marker and Work Lights for Trucks: A Practical Guide
Two kinds of light do the most for truck safety after headlights: side markers, which make a long vehicle visible from the side, and work lights, which light up the area around the vehicle at night.
Side markers: why they matter
A truck's headlights and tail lights say nothing about its length from the side. Side marker lights fill that gap — small lamps along the side of the truck, trailer or bus that show other drivers exactly where the vehicle starts and ends. On a dark highway, that side outline is what prevents side collisions.
Choosing a side marker
Look at three things: voltage, waterproofing, and function. The LED Side Marker & Turn Signal Light (12V/24V, IP66) combines a marker with a turn signal, so it does two jobs in one fitting. The 6 LED Side Marker Light covers a wider 12–36V range with IP66 waterproofing — useful for mixed fleets with different voltages. IP66 means the lamp is protected against dust and strong water jets; it is a rating from the product itself, not a guarantee for every marker in the range, so check each product's own rating.
Work lights: where they help
Work lights light up loading areas, yards, workshops and off-road ground. A 180W Off-Road LED Light Bar (12V/24V) suits UTVs, 4x4s, SUVs and trucks for off-road and site work, while smaller round and rectangular work lights suit trailers, tractors and machinery. Mount work lights where they light the ground you actually use — rear-facing for loading, side-facing for yard work — and wire them on a separate switch so they never blind oncoming traffic.
Voltage across a fleet
Side markers in this range span 12V/24V and 12–36V; work lights span 12V/24V and wider ranges on some models. If you run mixed vehicles, a wider-voltage model reduces the number of different lamps you need to stock.
